TOPIC: A balanced perspective is the key to understanding the contemporary surveillance society in which we live.

Surveillance camera used by government, that is the way to keep people living in a safety place. Surveillance camera used by individual, it is the way people want to set the last line when the danger happened. In my video I use drama and lecture to introduce both positive and negative side of the using of surveillance camera.

At the beginning I started with writing action shooting, that is low angle. I wrote the line from the Truman show to attract audience. And also, I have added the light music to give my video delightful tone of voice. The movie the Truman Show inspired me that if we live in a being monitored environment, how is that feel. Truman has been living in that place for the half part of his life. However, he had run away from that fake world which be monitored for the long time. It is lucky for Truman that he found his real world at the end. Some people find that Truman’s life is familiar with our life. Because of there are too many surveillance cameras on the public. Some people will say they feel there are many eyes keep looking them, that makes them feel uncomfortable. Not only public, someone even uses it in the wrong way.

The next part I shoot a little drama show to audience one of the examples that surveillance camera has been used in a wrong way. A famous star has been monitored by unknowingly. And person who took the video, even public it on the social website. Here I have been using low angle shooting. And by putting the camera in different position to resonate with the audience. I used exaggerated and emphasized methods to let the audience understand, that what circumstances it is improper use of surveillance camera.

Continuously, I took back to the self-presentation I give more information and explanation about improper use of surveillance camera. Meanwhile I give another point of view of the suing of surveillance camera is positive.  By the reported of BBC News, “China has the world’s biggest camera surveillance network.” China is building the world’s largest and the most sophisticated camera surveillance system. Across China, camera with artificial intelligence are widespread use.

I took another drama of the person took the video illegally and she lost the phone, she called help from police. And I move the camera to the surveillance recording that the place where she lost the phone has been recorded as well. That established that there is large area of surveillance camera system. It is easy to find things people have been lost. We also can know that surveillance technology is not just about that, such as face recognition before entering the parking. Some can even read faces, others can estimate age, ethnicity and gender.

Last shooting, I used self-presentation as well, to explain the ending of last story and pointed out the fact if people do bad thing, they will be monitored by surveillance camera. Surveillance camera is like the last shield to protect us when we are in danger. I used long shot to tell my point of view about surveillance camera is that, it is positive to set surveillance camera system around our life. However, it only need be used by legally. The purpose of the using surveillance camera by government is make those bad people feel the fear when they do some hurtful things. That fear is different from Truman’s fear in the movie. Truman wants to leave the world that he is being controlled. We are not controlled by the government, we are protected by them and the technology. If the monitoring system does not record people’s private life, it will always be people’s protector.
